What is the LSAT?
The LSAT is the primary admissions test for law schools in the U.S. and Canada. The biggest recent change: as of August 2024, LSAC permanently removed the Analytical Reasoning (Logic Games) section. This was a huge deal — Logic Games was the most learnable section, and many students relied on it to boost their scores. Now the test is two Logical Reasoning sections and one Reading Comprehension section.
Test Format & Sections
Logical Reasoning (2 sections, 35 min each, ~25-26 questions)
Short arguments followed by questions about assumptions, flaws, strengthening/weakening, and inference. This is the core of the LSAT and now makes up 2/3 of your score.
Reading Comprehension (35 minutes, ~27 questions)
Four passage sets including one Comparative Reading set (two shorter passages). Topics span law, science, humanities, and social science. Dense, academic writing — you need to read actively and efficiently.
Scoring
Scores range 120–180, median around 151. For T-14 law schools, you generally need 170+. For top-50 schools, aim for 160+. Your LSAT score is the single most important factor in law school admissions.

3–6 months minimum. The LSAT rewards deep practice more than any other standardized test. Many serious candidates study for 4–6 months, putting in 15–25 hours per week.
Top Study Tips
- Logic Games is gone — adjust your strategy. All your points now come from Logical Reasoning and Reading Comp. LR is the most improvable section.
- Drill Logical Reasoning relentlessly. It's 2/3 of your test. Learn every question type cold.
- Use real LSAT questions. LSAC has released decades of past tests. Use them. Third-party questions don't match the style.
- Time pressure is the real enemy. You have about 1 minute 20 seconds per question. Speed comes from pattern recognition.
